The machine allows the simulation of an endurance fatigue test on car wheels subjecting them to radial and axial fatigue stress and holding the test conditions in time. In the machine station it is possible to stress a rim with radial and axial loads at the same time.
The testing machine perfectly complies with Standards SAE J328/1204, ISO 3894, FIAT 7-B8000.
It is composed of a soldered steel base on which one station or two stations can be mounted. The wheel is enabled to move along the longest axis of the base as well as to spin around this axis, generating on the rim the effect of a continuous steering during the running (axial fatigue). The longitudinal motion (radial) pushes the wheel against a driving roller 1730 mm diameter, motioned by a high efficiency toothed belt by a 100 kW direct current motor. This motor allows a speed range between 0 and 300 tr/min, corresponding to the roller’s peripheral speed of 100 Km/h, which is enough to fulfil the requirements of the most important automobile Companies. The whole machine is protected by anti-intrusion panels, moving on sliding guides. Safety limit-switches, which stop the machine in case of grids violation, are present on them.
Ø The machine is fitted, in its upper part, with a lifting hoist that is able to serve both the stations, in order to allow the operator to easily fix/remove the wheel on the machine.
1. DRIVING UNIT The wheel driving drum is steel made, dynamically balanced, and supported by a shaft mounted on revolving bearings that are lubricated by grease. Ø In order to prevent any possible spill of hydraulic fluid from the wheel holder group and to grant a proper and continuous lubrication of the above mentioned bearings, the whole group is provided with a semi-permanent greasing device. Ø A system controlling the information relating to maintenance schedule (grease top-up to bearings units) is inserted in the machine supervision program and alerts the operator when the maintenance should be necessary. The rolling surface has been manufactured complying with strict dimensional tolerances and can be internally cooled by forced or free circulation of water (external cooling system of the drum is NOT supplied).
Option A: cooling system composed of a cooling unit The unit is dimensioned to ensure a suitable working temperature on the drum surface and it is linked and controlled by the PLC of the machine. The PLC detects any malfunctions or failures and prevents the overheating of the drum in order to reduce the tyre wear.
Option B: tyre cooling system A tyre air circulation internal system can be installed on each wheel-holder unit. This system allows removing air that gets warm during the test execution without changing the pressure in the tyre. In this way tyre life is lengthened. The unit is composed of a speedometer dynamo that detects the instantaneous rotation speed in order to control it. The motor will be automatically changed over from the traction status to the brake one in case of automatic stop or emergency condition and it completely stops in about 25 sec.
